Frequently ask questions on teeth Whitening |
How long does the procedure take?Initially, a d-spa dentist will examine both your teeth and gums to ensure the whitening process will be safe and effective for you. Then, 3-4 cycles of 8 minutes each of whitening agent will be applied to your teeth. During which you have an hour to relax, watch a movie, listen to music or even have a nap. We will do our very best to whiten and brighten your smile. How is it performed?Speak to any of our staff at d-spa and you will realise the procedure itself is very simple: 1. A d-spa dentist will examine both your teeth, then polish your teeth. 2. A protective barrier is applied to your gums. 3. Then, whitening gel (containing hydrogen peroxide) will be carefully applied to your teeth. Next, the whitening is activated by our whitening machine (intense halogen light) for the 8-minute cycle. This is repeated between 3-4 times depending on the severity of the stains within your teeth. 4. The treatment is as simple as that – you will walk out of our center with a whiter smile. Will I experience any discomfort? Most people usually experience little if any discomfort, althought some have reported mild tooth sensitivity during and up to 48 hours after the procedure. This will resolve itself naturally. GC Tooth Mousse is highly recommended to reduce the severity of any sensitivity directly following the procedure. Is whitening Safe?Yes. Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening the teeth under supervision of a dentist is safe. Whitening the teeth is considered to be the safest cosmetic dental procedure. Is it advisable to whiten my teeth during pregnancy or when breastfeeding? We advise that pregnant or lactating women avoid the whitening process. Am I able to only have my top teeth whitened?Yes of course, but is only suggested for rare cases where the natural lower teeth are replaced with crowns or a denture and these are whiter than the upper teeth. The cost is usually the same as getting both upper and lower teeth done since the product used and time taken to perform the procedure are the same. Does whitening damage or strip the enamel off teeth and what about the effects on the gums?Teeth whitening is completely safe. It does not strip the enamel or weaken your teeth in anyway. It is not damaging to the gums. However; it is recommended that if you have untreated gum disease to postpone the treatment until your gum disease has been resolved first. The dentist will assess this prior to commencing the whitening procedure. How white will my teeth get?At d-spa we can whiten your teeth to their maximum whiteness. Some people have achieved up to 11 shades lighter. However, there are no predictors for the final outcome. It is only by attempting the procedure that clients learn how white their teeth can be and/or how quickly the whitening will occur. At d-spa we provide you with a home maintenance kit to help you achieve and then maintain your desired results. How long will the whitening last? Our whitening procedure is permanent. Although, depending on your lifestyle, mild staining can re-occur for dietary reasons. Foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, red wine, curry and smoking. This is why d-spa provides you with a home maintenance kit to ensure you maintain your whiteness for life. It is as simple as using the kit provided twice a year to maintain the original result. How often should I have my teeth whitened?Once you have had the in-surgery whitening, it is as simple as using the maintenance kit every six months depending on your lifestyle. Will any crowns, veneers or fillings whiten?Unfortunately no, only your natural teeth whiten. However, in most cases, the contrast is not obvious. Eespecially with porcelain, since the natural teeth are often darker than the veneers or crowns. |
