Meet the Team at 538 Collins Street

Dr. Matthew Burke, Practice Principal restricted to Orthodontics (B.D.S)

After graduating from the University of Adelaide in 2005 with a Bachelor of Dental surgery (B.D.S), Dr. Matthew Burke joined the d-spa family in 2008. During his six years, Dr. Burke has been an integral component of d-spa’s success, in particular through his management of the dentist team across all three d-spa practices. He is also a member ADA City Group and Australian Society of Endodontology.

Having always harboured an interest in the health sector, Dr. Burke was drawn to the dental industry as it allowed him to positively help people. Underpinning Dr. Burke’s dental philosophy is his commitment to providing minimally invasive and pain-free dentistry and he is dedicated to comprehensive treatment planning to ensure his patients experience the best of both the functional and aesthetic aspects of dentistry. With experience across all facets of general practice, Dr. Burke has a specific interest in endodontics and also aesthetic orthodontics such as Invisalign treatment. However, he admits that the most rewarding aspect of his role is “building long term patient relationships and being able to offer comprehensive treatment tailored to each individual’s needs.”  Unsurprisingly, Dr. Burke’s warm and effervescent nature have made him a popular member of the d-spa team and endeared him to a very loyal patient base. When away from the dental chair, Dr. Burke enjoys being active and is a keen cyclist, golfer, enjoys playing basketball and spending time with his family and friends.

Joel Williams, Oral Health Therapist (BOralH)

Following a positive high school work experience placement at a local dental studio in his home state of Queensland, Joel was inspired to enroll in the School of Dentistry and Oral Health (Griffith University) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Oral Health and Dental Science (BOralH) in 2010. Subsequently, Joel joined the d-spa family in 2011 where his outgoing and warm demeanour have made him a welcome addition to the team.

As a d-spa Oral Health Therapist, Joel’s dental philosophy is strongly centered on preventive oriented patient care. He believes that using this as a core approach allows him to develop effective treatment planning for each and every individual patient regardless of their dental circumstances, which ultimately builds upon a solid foundation of preventing the cause of dental decay and gum disease. Joel also takes great pride in providing the utmost professionalism and high quality patient care and strives to eliminate patient anxiety in order to ensure that his patients have a pleasant and enjoyable dental experience: “I always try to ease discomfort through building a rapport with my patients, striking up friendly conversation in order to get to know each and every individual on a personal level. Gaining a patient’s trust is something I place high priority on and is the key to a successful patient relationship”. Away from the dental chair, Joel enjoys maintaining a fit and healthy lifestyle and spending his weekends exploring the dynamic restaurant and bar culture of his new found Melbourne home.

Kelly Madrusan, Practice Manager

After initially completing her Advanced Diploma in Business (Advertising) at Swinburne University, Kelly was motivated to enter the dental industry after seeing how much her friend enjoyed her dental traineeship. This inspired Kelly to enrol in a Certificate III in Dental Assisting (RMIT) and following her graduation, she was welcomed into the d-spa fold in 2009.

Known for her bubbly personality, Kelly is the friendly first point of contact for all 538 Collins St patients. With her warm and easy going nature, Kelly is able to naturally help patients feel comfortable and welcome in what can be perceived as an ‘intimidating’ dental environment. She strives to provide all patients with the highest level of patient care and service, and ensures that warmth and care is a paramount concern for her team. Having been with d-spa for over 4 years, Kelly still finds great satisfaction from her patient interaction: “Seeing patients so happy and satisfied with their end results is very rewarding, especially knowing that d-spa was part o the process.” Away from work, Kelly enjoys travelling to new destinations and is an avid cook who loves whipping up culinary delights for her family and friends.
